Extractions

Tooth extraction is a dental procedure in which a tooth is removed from its socket in the jawbone. There are various reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted, including:

  1. Severe Tooth Decay: When a tooth is extensively decayed and cannot be restored with dental fillings or crowns, extraction may be necessary to prevent the spread of infection to surrounding teeth.

  2. Advanced Gum Disease: Periodontal (gum) disease can lead to the loss of supporting bone, causing teeth to become loose. In such cases, extraction may be required to address the compromised structural integrity of the tooth.

  3. Impacted Wisdom Teeth: Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, may become impacted (unable to fully emerge from the gum) due to lack of space. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, swelling, and damage to neighboring teeth, necessitating extraction.

  4. Orthodontic Reasons: In some orthodontic cases, tooth extraction is performed to create space for proper tooth alignment.

  5. Broken or Fractured Teeth: Teeth that are severely broken or fractured may need to be extracted if they cannot be effectively restored.

  6. Infection or Abscess: If a tooth develops an infection or abscess, extraction may be required to eliminate the source of the infection and prevent its spread.
